Well, it’s simple. I’ve fished in fast boats that could get you from one side of the lake to the next in 10 minutes.

I’ve sat down and thought about this quite heavily.

Would a boat be nice to have? I’m sure we’d all answer that the same way.

Of course it would be nice to have a big boat with a fast motor and lots of room for storage.

Having done that a few times, that’s just not the way I like to fish.

When I’m on the water, I want to be fully involved with the habitat around me.

That’s an experience I never got on a boat.

And once you make that decision to do it, I can almost guarantee you won’t ever stop. It’s one of the most addicting things I’ve ever done.

You might even say that Kayak Bass Fishing is my drug of choice!

So to sum it up, I fish from a kayak because of the experience it provides for me while I’m on the water doing what I love the most, Fishing!

Getting Started In Kayak Bass Fishing The Right Way

The obvious thing that you are going to need is a good, “fishing kayak.”

There are many options to choose from and an enormous amount of videos on youtube promoting this brand and that brand, etc.

You can get so caught up in that noise that it could actually be more of a distraction than beneficial and that’s coming from someone who has been there, done that.

My advice to you on picking the right fishing kayak is consider first the following six things.

  1. What type of angler are you?
    1. Bass Angler
    2. Panfish Angler
    3. Catfish Angler
    4. I just want to get on the water and fish type of angler, etc.
  2. What is your height and weight?
    1. Small
    2. Medium
    3. Large
    4. Xtra Large
  3. Are you wanting to tournament fish, or just get out when you can for pleasure?
  4. How much gear do you plan on bringing? Just a few rod/reels, a little bit of tackle or do you plan to go all out and bring it all?
  5. How much do you want to spend on making sure you have the best experience possible each time you hit the water?
  6. Now is when you start looking at fishing kayaks that match up to your specific needs. What’s good for you may not be good for me, etc.

These are some of the most fundamental and basic things I believe you need to consider when getting started as a kayak angler.

Of course, we haven’t exhausted the list by no means, but this will give you a foundation to build upon as you decide what direction you want to go.

After you have determined all the information you need in the top 6 steps above, now it’s time to decide the type of kayak you use to fish out of, are you just pleasure fishing, or do you plan on tournament fishing?
